David Downton

It's impossible to have a magazine on fashion illustration without ever mentioning David Downton, one of the most important figures in the area. Illustrator and celebrity portrait artist, Downton also produces the only fashion illustration journal around - Pourqouis Pas?, a high end limited 76 page ad-less mag, bringing together the strongest talents in the industry and discussing illustrators past and present.
In an interview with Graphics magazine a few years back, Downton described the mag as his own way of saying 'fuck you' to all those editors who use illustration as a way of filling space, rather than giving them the promotion they deserve, and so they can just simply say they 'feature illustration'
