Flashback: Thierry Perez - Studies of Men in Gianni Versace, 1991

As far as I know, and believe me I've done the legwork, these studies by Perez aren't up anywhere online to see. Maybe there's a reason, and i'm breaking some sort of copyright, who knows…

Irregardless, it would be a shame for any fans of Thierry to never see his beefy Versace man, complete with lips you could sink into, unavoidably prominent nipples and a jawline that's so angular it could cut you.

It's been a rather slow month for posts as I concentrate on commissions, the new issue of Decoy, my book, and eating my own weight in christmas snacks. However this little delight surfaced on Tumblr this morning that I've never came across before, and it ought to be shown. I consider myself to know quite well which pieces of Thierry's work is online, and know there is a vast amount that isn't up, high quality or not. So it's great to discover this gem, Tina in Gianni Versace Spring Summer 1992.

I made this post a while back but had to delete it because of a Virus scare. Thankfully, I still have all the images, and now a few new ones! It's super hard to find Thierry's work online. The book 'Fashion Illustration' by Nicholas Drake has always been the key source (and is wildly cheap on amazon now) but apart from that, I'm stumped. He was clearly drawn to super fierce women of the 90s, most notably, all the supermodels and Madonna, who he continuously drew, and as I saw in the book 'Madonna in Art' continues to draw Madonna in each new incarnation of her image. He worked exclusively for Gaultier until 1991 which shows in all the outfit illustrations for Madonna's Blonde Ambition Tour.

However, he will always be known for the fashion illustrations featured below. One interesting clip of an Alaia show shows a rare animated illustration feature worked into a clip of Alaia's spring 1991 show, including Neneh Cherry.
